Mainstream Association for Proactive Community Living is the product of societies merging in 1998.

The agencies were small and scattered across a large geographic area. The range of programs was impressive, but the effectiveness of some programs operating as stand-alone services without tie-ins to other essential programs were not what they could be.

The reach and impact of these smaller agencies as part of a larger more effective whole would be greater. The Mainstream Association has striven to create a close-in, well-managed organization that has many programs providing up to 700 client services each year. Mainstream creates opportunities for independence and growth for individuals with physical, developmental and mental health challenges.

All of the organizations came together sharing a basic underlying philosophy. “People are people, each individual is worthy of our respect and being treated with dignity.” Mainstream walks the walk, demonstrating commitment through non-judgemental attitudes, expressing unconditional acceptance of others and promoting growth from whatever stage of progress we experience individuals.

Although we can never replace families, Mainstream can provide support through creating extended networks, providing secure and safe environments and strengthening self-belief and autonomy in our communities. Trust, confidentiality and privacy are what we provide and expect. Our truest motivation and goal is to promote, establish and participate in an inclusive community.
