On October 15, 2009, Mainstream Association for Proactive Living (MAPCL) hosted the 5th Annual Art Show for BC Artists with Developmental Disabilities. Vancouver’s Heritage Hall was filled to capacity with art lovers this year. The art was diverse, intriguing, unique and of exceptional quality. Over 380 pieces were on display, produced by100 artists in a variety of media. The Show featured paintings of all styles, collages, pottery, framed photography, tile mosaics, textile art and glassware. There was something for everyone and sales were brisk!

The mood of the evening was further enhanced by soft background music, wine and generous appetizers. Special Guest Ms. Arran Henn, volunteered to be the MC once again and kept the evening moving along smoothly. The crowd also enjoyed frequent prize draws and winners received gift cards and certificates to restaurants, pubs and businesses like Home Depot, Fountain Tire and Fitness World. They also won many other health, hair, and beauty products and services sponsored by local businesses. MAPCL would like to thank each sponsor for contributing to this year’s Art Show and embracing the spirit of community inclusion.

Now a yearly tradition, this Mainstream event is eagerly anticipated by artists and employees alike.  A group of repeat exhibitors has formed and continues to grow. Through participation in the annual Art Show, some individuals have gained access to exciting new opportunities.
