COMMUNITY LIVING MONTH
WHY WE CELEBRATE

Community Living Month is in October each year. It is a celebration of real life. It is a recognition of what inclusion means. Populations across our country and the world celebrate the true inclusion, autonomous choice, integrated living situations and the striving for the greatest possible independence for persons served by the Community Living movement.

These days a person with an intellectual disability lives his or her life in the community. Daily responsibilities, supports and goals are part of each person’s range of choices.

Community Living means more than living in a place. It is the fulfilling of potential the mastery of living and planning and the embracing of a healthy, true life with peers, family and a loving network of supportive and interested fellows.

Community Living shines brightly as an example of what anyone can be or accomplish when they are given the right and the resources to grow and hope. Let’s celebrate our successes and triumphs to come.

Happy Community Living Month.
