METAL ON THEIR MINDS

In a night of complete ‘hysteria’, Def Leppard rocked the capacity crowd at GM Place on September 27, 2007. Mike Lunn and staff Geoff Malcolm witnessed the revival of the 1980’s and were once again reminded of why ‘love bites’.

It was early August; a quiet Saturday afternoon when Mike was flipping through the pages of The Georgia Straight. He came across the concert listings and not two seconds later, his eye caught the easily recognizable font style of Def Leppard on a black background. Tapping the page, looking at me (Geoff), he didn’t need to ask; he just knew that he would be at that concert.

The day of, the paranoia echoed a little bit from Mike for as soon as I arrived on shift, he was raring to go. Constantly exclaiming that we had to be there on time. It was all in fun, because you couldn’t wipe the smile from his face. In full view of the stage, the floor seats and practically everything around us, Mike’s head was bouncing, his feet tapping and the air-guitar was his disposal, He was caught up in the lights, the music and the spectacle that was Def Leppard.

That’s what it’s all about; the client. I was lucky enough to attend, to see a band I like, and to get paid for it. In the end, though, it was all about Mike. It’s concerts and the like that we need to be doing as staff to promote empowerment and respect. That’s what inclusion in the community is all about.
