WHAT’S MY MOTIVATION

Much like method actors, we as Canadians are prone to wonder why we should take any action unless we have insight into what should be egging us on.

Getting involved in climate change, environmental, health, educational or other issues seems to be daunting. Why would we participate? Is there any point in being “part of” any group where we have no immediate gratification

The motivation does not have to be a threat to our survival. It can also be a desire to provide equality, responsibility and clarity to situations, and create a culture of example and leadership.

Sometimes it is only important to know that the thing you must consider doing is doing the right thing when called upon. As a nation our standard has been to step into the breach globally, and to protect our citizens with universal health care, a real social safety net and a true commitment to doing right.  When any of those systems or social remedies are at risk, it is our responsibility to lobby, express our grievances and suggest alternatives to the denigration of important rights and protections. We must do this for ourselves and our sisters and our brothers.

What is our motivation? It should be the preservation of our heritage of egalitarianism and compassion. Each of us, as Canadians bear a responsibility to see that our country and the spirit of conscience it has always represented remains a frontier of hope and plenty for the ages. Our good fortune in being Canadians dictates this responsibility.
