CANADA DAY: WHAT IT MEANS TO BE CANADIAN

What makes Canada Canada? What makes us Canadian?
What does it mean to be Canadian?

We are a nation of peaceful, talented, self-effacing “nice” people.  Our history as a nation with a conscience attracts would-be citizens from around the world.

Here are some statements from new Canadians about “being” Canadian:

I never throught about going out late at night before living here. The night here is dark, but not as dangerous. I love this place.

To me Canada is a place of peace, safety, respect,. Being Canadian makes me part of that peace.

I feel a part of everything that happens here. It is a place where you can know more about what is really happening in your own city, province and the country. We know what is going on.

It means that I have a real opportunity to enjoy a quality life. It is the best cou ntry kn the world ro raise children. It  is a wonderful place for social activism

When my mother came to Canada she had some sight left, but soon after arriving she lost her vision.  The generosity and support we got was amazing. I am proud to be Canadian because we care, and try hard to make sure everyone is taken care of.
