Green Power Update

Attention all wanna be Greenies!!!!!!
The Green Power Committee is recruiting new members who wish to join us in our mission to create more environmentally sustainable practices.
As members of the Green Power Committee we are dedicated to doing research and providing information on:
• Reducing waste,
• Recycling,
• Composting,
• Saving energy and money
• Green Initiatives,
• Environmental Community based events
• Inviting involvement through Green Contest and challenges.
How can you get involved???
We will have a table set up at our Annual MAPCL Picnic on September 8/09 where you will have an opportunity to enter your name as a possible Green Power Committee Member or a member at large. Members of the Committee will be wearing green banners and will be happy to answer any questions you may have. We will also be handing out papers with Green Power written down the side and invite everyone to come up with words which reflect what we represent beside each letter. The winner of this contest will win a Verma compost.
Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup!!!!
This fall come out and join members of the Green Power Committee at the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup!!!!
As of August 29th, 1422 people have signed up. Last year 135,467 Kg of litter was removed from 1280 sites across Canada.
School groups, community groups, families and concerned individuals will be out there again this year working together to create solutions that will rid our shore lines and water ways of garbage which creates harmful toxins and contaminates all Eco systems including our food chain.

Just E-mail or send in your tips on how to winterize your home to save energy and money. The most creative energy efficient tip will be the winning tip. The winner will be announced in our next News Letter and will receive some LED Christmas lights as a prize. Good luck to all entries!!!! and thank you in advance to everyone for your helpful tips.
Green Power's get ready for winter tips:
• Use “window insulation wrap” this winter for weather proofing older windows in your home. A good idea is to also caulk around the outside of frames of the windows before winter comes in. This will increase the efficiency of the window wrap and keep any hot inside air from seeping out, and cold outside air from seeping in.
• Make a draft snake out of old nylons for window ledges. Can be stuffed with old rags, pet fur, dryer lint or any other reusable fluff that would otherwise end up in the trash.
• Make draft pets for under the door out of old tights or shirt sleeves, stuff the same way as the item above.
• Insulate wall plugs.
• Insulate hot water pipes.
• Have a verma compost inside so you don't have to let cold air in by taking kitchen scraps to the out-side compost while you're cooking or canning
Being green is being grateful for the beauty and the gifts that this life has to offer.
