FAMILY FOR A SEASON

A number of years ago, staff at head office decided to adopt a family through the Purpose Society instead of buying one another gifts at Christmas.  We all look forward shopping and preparing the hamper for our adopted family…it has become a tradition for head office staff.

In early November, the Purpose Society sends us a family profile with the family’s wish list.  And each year it touches my heart that the family asks for basic items that we take for granted.  This year was no exception and in fact, touched me a bit more.

Our adopted family is comprised of mom, dad and a two-year old little girl.  Mom has asked for a winter coat for herself and diapers, boots, and mittens for her little girl.  Dad has asked for a dress shirt.  What got me most of all was that dad also asked for any flavour of yogurt.  Yogurt!  Something most of us have in the fridge on any given day…something we don’t even think about having…and here it is on someone’s Christmas list.  He didn’t ask for a video game, or sports gear or a movie…he asked for yogurt.

It made me take a step back and really think about this family and why Christmas Hamper programs are so important and really do help families in dire need.  I am so pleased and proud that head office staff made the decision to be involved with this much-needed program.  It helps us remember what Christmas is really about …giving and bringing joy.

Thanks for the generosity of all those who donate to the Purpose Society Christmas Hamper program.  Our family this year will receive everything on their wish list.
