YELLOW

Yellow is the colour of dandelions, beautiful birds and a colour associated with baby chicks, ducklings and that which is bright as the sun and soft as eiderdown. Yellow is a beautiful and esthetically pleasing point on the colour spectrum.

Yellow though also indicates cowardice, dubious ethical positions, and even more, as a tool of propagandists and a sociopathically acrid group known as yellow journalists.

The zenith of yellow journalism occurred throughout the twentieth century, most particularly in the 20’s and 30’s in the United States. The movie Citizen Kane produced and written by Orson Welles was an epic parody of the life of the King of yellow journalism, William Randolph Hearst. As the scion of the Hearst newspaper empire, if he said white was black, his acolytes and employees made it so in a hundred newspapers across the country. Yellow is the colour of miscreants and irresponsible scribes who report falsely, do no research before publicly releasing a volley of acerbic and incorrect innuendo and “little known facts” which happen to be just that because they are not really facts at all.

A lack of valid information does not stop a yellow journalist from supposing. It does not stop a yellow journalist from creating a set of ideas that form a scenario similar to that of a screenplay or fairytale.

In the time of Emile Zola, the great French writer, a man named Dreyfuss was framed, publicly hung out to dry by the press of the day, and suffered imprisonment and dishonour. Although he was later exonerated, it took Emile Zola, a man of principle and fame, the energies of twenty other men and the love of his wife who stood faithfully by him to undo the embrace of the serpents set in place by the media of the time.

In our day and age, even venerable press like the New York Times have found themselves the unwilling and unwitting victims of fraudulent, indolent writers who set themselves above the law, truth and humanity by falsifying fact, being no better than forgers and worse than criminals who sometime commit acts to survive.

Reat time examples of the frenzy for sensational accounts of every word, deed and faux pas of the rich and famous exist all around us. Many years ago, my mom, in trying to impress the potential in-laws of my brother sent a social announcement about my sister in law officiating at a ceremony at Sick Chickens Hospital. Everyone was angry at my mom. Couldn’t the newspaper though, figure out “Children’s Hospital” not “Sick Chicken’s Hospital” was where you would officiate at a ceremony? The last I heard, no chickens were having a formal graduation ceremony. NO matter, I’m sure someone somewhere was outraged that chickens were graduating from anything. People believe what they read.

People also believe what they see. A fake Rothschild family member came to town a number of years ago, and greased the wheels for his defrauding of wealthy gullibles by buying tickets to, and attending, and mugging for the press at high society events.

My cat looks in a mirror and is really angry with me for bringing another feline into the house. We see reflections of the truth, somehow bent and poorly lit and accept the image, as my cat does, without question.

Are we a society of drones lacking the faculties of analysis and discernment? Are the “recorders” of our society and it’s deeds nothing more than liars, revisionists and individuals who consider their job solely entertainment or shock?. Don’t let this happen to our world. Respond to false accusations, live apart from shallow misrepresentations of your reality and the intentional ruin of good people, institutions and injustice.

Every voice and every pen are weapons against turbid, yellow versions of our vibrant, robustly coloured world. Threaten to cancel subscriptions, change the channel and don’t support sponsors or advertisers who hang their hats where lies and sensationalism do. It’s our game too.
