WINTER CARNIVAL

The winter Carnival is a week-long event organized by North Shore Options to bring programs together to have some fun in that long grey winter period between Christmas and Easter. This is the first year that this event was offered and the idea proved to generate an enthusiastic response. Vancouver Life Skills, Alternatives and Eco Rangers put on a St. Patrick’s Day Dance on March 17th. The participants enjoyed pizza & soft drinks and danced up a storm while sporting green lays and various festive hats. The decorations for the dance looked great and defiantly set the mood for a good old-fashioned leprechaun hee-haw.

On March 19th, 2008, N. S. Options hosted a trip to Grouse Mountain. The 17 mountaineers enjoyed riding the Gondola to the top of Grouse. Participants watched a short scenic movie, which reflected the beauty of our province through the eyes of an eagle. We all ate lunch in the café. After lunch we enjoyed a short walk in the snow, followed by a sleigh ride. Some of the folks from the residential homes who could not attend the Grouse trip managed to organize a visit to Grouse on the weekend. All in all it was a fun event to plan and participate in.

I do believe we achieved our objective to rise above the grey and celebrate the good things about winter while waiting for spring.
