Blenheim House programs offer treatment services to families with children up to six years, who have significant emotional and behavioural problems. Consultation is available to community agencies involved in the care of young children. The four Blenheim House programs are The Parent-lnfant Project (infants 0 - 2 1/2 years old, Outpatient Program (children 0 - 6 years old) and Day Program (children 2 1/2 - 6 years old) (the day program has a morning therapeutic group Monday to Thursday for 12 children at a time). A full range of therapy and counselling services is available for children and their families through these three programs. Daycares and preschools can request an extended in-centre education and support contract through the Blenheim House Daycare/Preschool Outreach Program in their work with children in their centres who have emotional or behavioural Problems.

Working in the parents home, the Parent-Infant Project utilizes a therapeutic intervention which focuses on relationship issues. Serves parents who have children between 0 and 2 1/2 years of age. Clients are parents who have the "deep blues-, or who have difficulty in feeling warmly towards their baby, or who feel very stressed and frustrated in caring for their baby most of the time. Referrals can be made through Blenheim House at 228-1121.

Provides assessment of people thought to be mentally ill and in need of emergency intervention and those services which are essential to the emergency situation. Available in Vancouver only. Hours: seven days a week from 8:00 a.m.-3:00 a.m.

Operates a 24 hour crisis line with nurses who can answer mental health questions, help resolve emergency situations or provide referrals to other health care providers. Also have a fairly new program, called the Geriatric Mental Health Emergency Services - which is a seven day/week program which focuses on emergency intervention and support for the older adult population over 65 years of age.

Adolescent Psychiatric Unit
A 10 bed, non-emergency short stay assessment and treatment facility for male and female teenagers 13 to 16 years of age. Designed for youth with severe emotional disorders such as: psychosis, schizophrenia, thought disorders, depression, serious suicidal behaviour, and some serious school problems. Request for admission must be accompanied by a letter from the family physician.

Emergency Psychiatric/Psychiatric Assessment
A short-term holding and assessment unit located in Emergency for people who need immediate help. Referrals are made to various other hospitals and agencies throughout the province.

General Acute Psychiatric Unit
Limited number of acute psychiatric care beds for patients of VGH admitting psychiatrists.

Offers people with schizophrenia and related disorders a setting in which to improve deficits and develop new capacities to better succeed with meaningful activities and relationships. The program utilizes a variety of assessment and treatment modalities including psychoeducational, pharmacological, vocational and a broad based life skills acquisition component (i.e. problem solving, stress management, leisure planning, goal setting). Therapy is offered in individual, group and family modalities. Also provides comprehensive outpatient service to patients who attend Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Potential clients must display: the beginnings of motivation to improve aspects of their lives; insight into their illness; and a willingness to attend for a minimum of three months.
