Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common
good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the
quality of life.
To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general
public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence
in the not-for-profit organizations and causes they are asked to support,
we declare that all donors have these rights:
1. To be informed of the
organization's mission, of the way the organization intends to use
donated resources, and of its capacity to use the donations for their
intended
purposes.
2. To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization's
governing board, and to expect theboard to exercise prudent judgmentin
its stewardship responsibilities.
3. To have access to the organizations most recent financial statements.
4. To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which
they were given.
5. To receive appropriate acknowledgment and recognition.
6. To be assured that information about their donations is handled
with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
7. To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations
of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.
8. To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees
of the organization, or hired solicitors.
9. To have the opportunity for their name to be deleted from mailing
lists that an organization may intend to share.
10. To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive
prompt, truthful, and forthright answers.

Sponsorship, Donations, Volunteers. You can sponsor
events, program modules, training and or symposia that familiarize
communities and individuals with MAPCL's and your own company's services
and products.

Contact our office at (604) 299-4001 or drop off/mail
your donation to 4664 Lougheed Highway, Suite 240 , Burnaby BC V5C
2C5.

You may make your donation by VISA or MASTERCARD
at 299-4001 extension 243 or:
Donate to Mainstream by giving online through Canada Helps, a secure
and
proven donor fulfillment partner.

MAPCL can be the beneficiary of insurance policies,
demutualized shares, bonds, stocks, real estate and share purchases

You can designate donations to specific MAPCL programs
over a long-term via a pledge and an initial donation. MAPCL will use
these pledges to stimulate additional donations. It is very valuable
that an organization can predict its financial outcomes with a number
of pledges because they are assured donations. Secondly, being a lead
donor you can convince other organizations and individuals by example
of the value of such a donation.

Through your bank account or using Electronic Funds
Transfer online, you can designate a fixed monthly donation for a year
or more to support programs of MAPCL.

You can donate to MAPCL's home purchase program.
This assures a secure and safe long-term environment for people with
blocks to regular housing. We will customize homes and adapt the building
to the use of people with physical and other challenges.

Gifts in Kind may mean a donation of new computer
equipment, advertising in a publication or media outlet you work with
at no cost, using your own regular mailings for a mail insert from
MAPCL or providing services and products.

Give us your valuable time and we will place you
within one of our services. Our volunteer orientation booklet will
be sent to you if you make a volunteer inquiry.
• the federal capital gains tax has been cut in half on any publicly-traded equities (i.e. stocks, bonds, mutual funds, bills, futures and warrants) that are donated. It has been reduced from 50% to 25% as of October 18, 2000.
•
You increase your current after-tax cash flow.
•
You receive the satisfaction of contributing a significant gift which will benefit individuals living with significant life challenges.

If you have cash or an asset that you have considered leaving to MAPCL in your Will but would like the tax benefit now, then a charitable remainder trust or a gift of residual interest may be your answer.
A charitable remainder trust pays you an annual income for life from your invested principal. A gift of residual interest allows you to donate an asset today (personal residence, work of art, investment property) and enjoy the use of it for the rest of your life.
A charitable remainder trust is a gift that is invested to give the donor an ongoing income. The gift, in the form of cash, stocks, bonds or real estate, is 'irrevocable' since it cannot be taken back once made. Your gift is held in a trust which can be administered by you or a professional of your choice. You continue to receive an annual income for life from the trust. A charitable remainder trust generates a tax receipt when you make the gift. The allowable tax credit is based on the cash amount or market value of the property, your age, and current interest rates.
A gift of residual interest allows you to donate an asset today (personal residence, work of art, investment property), and enjoy the use of it for the rest of your life. An immediate tax receipt is issued for the fair market value of the donated asset.
Benefits to you
• You receive an immediate tax receipt for the present value of the donated asset.
• You receive an annual income from the assets in the Trust. In the case of a gift of residual interest, you retain the use of the gift for the rest of your life.
• Irrevocable trusts are not included in the value of your estate, thus avoiding probate fees. (Probate fees do exist in Quebec.)
• Gifts of appreciated property can be structured to avoid capital gains tax.
• Your gift is confidential, and unlike a bequest, cannot be challenged in court.
We recommend you discuss your gift intentions with your own financial, legal or tax advisor. If you have a representation agreement in place, you may wish to discuss it with your representative or proxy. When you are ready to proceed, we would be pleased to work with you to develop a gift which is meaningful to you and will bring a maximum benefit to MAPCL.
